Going Black And White In A World Of Color
Back when I was studying at the university, I signed up for Advertising, a subject offered in our college. I wanted to know more about the whole deal with advertising and see if I was creative enough to pursue a career in this field. How I managed through the subject and what I learned would yet be another story. I would be telling you one of the things that my professor taught us.
At the start of one session, our professor handed each one of us different magazines. Our instructions were to go through the magazine in five minutes. That was all she said and that was what we did. After five minutes, she told us to return the magazines back to her and she asked us just which advertisements did we recall. Of course, we did mention a number but when we compared the list of ads we remembered, we managed to remember the black and white photograph used in an advertisement.
In the midst of all photographs and images used in advertisements, why would we be attracted to black and white images that even stuck to our heads so much that we were able to remember it? Well, despite the fact that it is bland and not so attractive, put a black and white image in a pile of colored photographs and it stands out. That is the power that black and white photographs have over those colored photographs that we always are attracted to.
Taking black and white photographs may be difficult for some but in a world of color, black and white images still do stand out.
