The Country’s 2007 Most Searched Terms
Using Google.com.ph’s statistics for the year 2007, one would be able to discover that the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s online news and information website using multimedia, Inquirer.net, has become the most searched term. “Inquirer.net” has also been one of the “fastest rising searched terms for 2007″ said a report.
Other terms that have been included in the fastest rising searched terms for the past year include “crunchyroll”, “esnips”, “granado espada”, “facebook”, “imeem”, “iphone”, “princess hours”, and “youtube”. Through this group of popular terms searched by Filipinos last year, we can see that Filipino internet users are exploring more of what the World Wide Web has to offer. They are also much keen on finding social networking sites wherein they can share their thoughts, their experiences, and also share other stuff like images, music, videos, and other digital files.
Google has coined the term “zeitgeist” which actually translates to “spirit of the times”. This is what the popular search engine company has used to describe the current trends in online searching. Google even disclosed through the report that the Zeitgeist is “calculated by looking at the aggregation of the most popular and fast-rising search queries being typed into the Google.com.ph search box”.
Some of the other top keyword searches that Google Philippines has been able to compile for the year 2007 included terms relating to basketball and sports (like NBA, UAAP, Manny Pacquiao, and ESPN), gadgets and technology (like iPhone, Nokie N95, iPod, and PSP), and government agencies (like SSS, PAG-ASA, POEA, and PRC).
